Why choose a Soy Wax candle?

No one walks around eating candles right, so who cares if there toxic? Well no we don’t eat them, but what they are made up of ends up in the air we breathe, so the ingredients in the candles should be just as important as the fragrance it gives off.

Here at Luz Apothecary, we choose to work with only all natural 100% soy wax, which is domestically grown in the US. Soy wax is not only non-toxic, but it contains nothing artificial, which is not usually the case with most types of candle wax.

If your candle is not a soy candle 9 times out of 10 it’s a paraffin wax candle.

What is paraffin wax? Paraffin wax is a white or colorless, solid wax. Since paraffin wax is derived from petroleum oil, using these candles frequently will cause “dangerous pollutants drifting in the air,” which can be harmful when inhaled. A study conducted at South Carolina State University found that with paraffin candles, this combustion process also releases toxic chemicals such as toluene, which is a benzene derivative, a known carcinogen for humans.

It's also common for people to complain of getting headaches/migraines from candles. It's usually because of the paraffin wax toxins themselves causing the headaches, and not the fragrance or throw of your candle. I’ve had so many people say that our candles don’t give them headaches like other brands and this is usually because they used to burn paraffin wax candles and not soy candles.

Along with our 100% natural soy wax, we also use high quality fragrance oils that are all alcohol-free, phthalate-free, and gluten-free, cruelty free as well as lead free cotton wicks. Our fragrance oils do not have carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organ toxins, or acute toxins.

Our candles burn clean, so you do not have to worry about breathing in any toxic chemicals.
